How Bellafill Can Make a Difference

Bellafill and other cosmetic services can make a significant difference in the way you look and feel about yourself. While aesthetic surgery has its place, many of the newer treatments are minimally invasive and can be performed in a doctor’s office. Here’s some information about some of these new advances, courtesy of Dr. Raffi Krikorian of New Look Vein and Aesthetic Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

What’s Bellafill?

Bellafill is one of the latest developments in aesthetic services, a dermal filler that is made differently than conventional products. Dermal fillers (sometimes called facial fillers) are used to replace the subcutaneous fat that we normally lose as we age. Those areas tend to be where wrinkles and lines develop. Bellafill contains bovine collagen and tiny beads made of a substance called poly methyl methacrylate. The combination stimulates the production of collagen under the skin and smooths and plumps the area where it’s injected.

What is Bellafill Used For?

Like other dermal fillers, Bellafill is used to treat lines and wrinkles. Bellafill is considered a permanent filler and can last for as long as eight to 10 years, unlike other dermal fillers that must be re-injected within a year or so. Approved for the correction of smiles lines (called nasolabial folds in the medical world), Bellafill is also used to treat lines and wrinkles around the eyes, earlobes, chin and other areas. Bellafill can also be used to treat acne scars. Results are immediate and downtime is minimal. Over the next few months, Bellafill stimulates the production of natural collagen, which further improves the appearance.

What About Other Treatments?

Bellafill is only one of a number of cosmetic services Dr. Krikorian offers. For example, Botox (and its “cousins” Dysport and Xeomin) are used to treat wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing the muscle that creates the wrinkle in the first place. Radiesse is used to help solve the problem of sagging skin. Juvederm is another kind of facial filler – it can be used if patients are allergic to one of the components in Bellafill or don’t feel they need long-term wrinkle correction. Latisse is a prescription solution that promotes the growth of eyelashes, making them longer and thicker. It must be used consistently for best results. We also perform laser tattoo removals.

Do I Need Cosmetic Services?

Cosmetic services are generally just that – cosmetic in nature rather than providing functional improvements. However, if you feel at all sensitive about your appearance, they can make a difference. If you work in a field where appearance is a major issue, such as the modeling industry, television or movies, cosmetic procedures can help provide job security or employment opportunities. No one should feel ashamed of trying to look good or to stave off the effects of aging.

Putting your best face forward can increase your confidence and self-esteem. Most of the aesthetic services we offer can be performed in an hour or less in our office. Please contact us for any questions or to schedule an appointment.

Dermal Fillers to Combat Wrinkles

Looking to get rid of a few fine lines and wrinkles? Want to return your skin’s youthful and vibrant appearance? While we can’t turn back the clock or take a dip in the legendary fountain of youth, modern medical science allows us to reduce or eliminate crow’s feet, scowl lines, and other unsightly signs of aging with dermal filler treatments.

The Fundamentals of Dermal Filler Treatment

Those seeking to diminish wrinkles quickly without the expense and medical risks that are commonly associated with aesthetic surgery will find no better medical treatment than dermal fillers. Injected directly into problem areas, dermal fillers instantly fill and plump skin tissue to smooth out dermatological creases and fine lines. Although the results are not permanent, these cosmetic services are currently one of the very best medical options for targeted and effective wrinkle reduction.

Patients typically notice a visible difference within two or three days of treatment. As wrinkles disappear, your face will appear fresher, firmer, and younger. And unlike costly, painful, and time-consuming aesthetic surgical procedures, dermal fillers require no recovery time. You can make a simple office visit, receive your shots from a qualified medical professional, and return to your busy daily schedule within the space of a couple hours.

Your Dermal Filler Options

Although most people are familiar with Botox, many do not realize that there are many other dermal fillers on the market. Here are just a few:

  • Botox/Dysport/Xeomin – All of these products fall under the category of neuro-modulators, medical substances that weaken muscles. When facial muscles that move less the wrinkles on the skin above them become far less prominent.

  • Juviderm – Juviderm’s active ingredient, hyaluronic acid, spreads out within cutaneous tissue to full out wrinkles and folds such as nasolabial folds (the “smile lines” that appear around the lips).

  • Voluma – The latest generation of hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler, Voluma is much longer lasting than its predecessors. While the effects of Juviderm typically last 6 to 9 months, the effects of a single Voluma treatment can last up to 2 years.

  • Radiesse – Clinically proven to last a year or more, Radiesse eliminates wrinkles by increasing volume in the upper dermis through an infusion of calcium-based microspheres, causing sagging and depleted skin to tighten and smooth out.

  • Bellafill – In addition to increasing facial volume to smooth wrinkles immediately after injection, Bellafill’s unique microspheres actually generate collagen production. Unlike many fillers, these microspheres do not break down over time.

Surprising Facts About Botox

If you’ve ever thought about getting Botox, you’re not alone. An injectable treatment that provides results that last about three months, Botox was first approved by the FDA to treat frown lines back in 2002. In 2013, the FDA gave the treatment approval for treating the crow’s feet, the delicate lines that develop in the corners of the eyes.

But there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to the injectable. Here are a few things you probably didn’t know about it.

What You Didn’t Know About Botox

"Botox" is a Brand

Just as people use "Kleenex" when talking about tissues or "Xerox" when they mean any sort of photocopying machine, people tend to use "Botox" when referring to any sort of injection that contains botulinum toxin and that’s used to treat dynamic wrinkles.

But although it might have been the first brand approved by the FDA for treating wrinkles, it’s not the only option out there. Doctors who offer cosmetic services also often offer competing brands, such as Dysport and Xeomin. Although the three brands are all very similar, there are some subtle differences between each. Your aesthetic surgeon can help you choose the right one for you.

It’s One of the Most Popular Cosmetic Treatments

In recent years, non-surgical treatments have become more popular than aesthetic surgery. And injections of botulinum toxin are the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 7 million injects were performed in 2016, a 4 percent increase from the year before.

It Doesn’t Actually Freeze Your Face

One of the most common misconceptions about botulinum toxin injections is that they cause your face to freeze, so you’re completely expressionless and unable to smile. That’s not quite true. The injections work by limiting muscle movements, but only the movements of certain muscles. You’ll still be able to blink and smile. But certain movements will be more limited.

It’s For More Than Just Wrinkles

Botulinum toxin has a lot of uses. For many years before it was approved for wrinkles, the injection was used to treat crossed eyes and a few other eye problems. It can also help reduced migraine headaches and ease underarm sweating. Researchers are continuing to find new ways that the injection can benefit people, including helping to ease depression symptoms and helping to calm an overactive bladder.

You Can Combine It With Other Treatments

People often have more than one type of wrinkle or more than one cosmetic issue. The good news is that you can combine Botox with a variety of other aesthetic treatments, from dermal fillers to Latisse. If you’re getting botulinum injections to fight crow’s feet, getting a prescription for Latisse to help improve your eyelashes makes sense. So does getting a dermal filler to minimize certain lines and wrinkles that Botox doesn’t treat.

Refresh Your Look With Lunch-Hour Cosmetic Services

Think you’ve got to go under the knife to look younger, fresher and more vibrant? Think again. Today’s advances in cosmetic services will allow you to refresh your appearance quickly and painlessly.

In fact, many treatments can be performed during your lunch hour. You’ll be able to return to work and no one will be the wiser that you’ve had Botox or a dermal filler. They’ll just know you look great!

How Do Dermal Fillers Work?

Dermal fillers smooth out and diminish the appearance of wrinkles and lines on your face, neck or hands. Each filler is formulated a little differently so you’ll need to consult with Dr. Krikorian to determine which will meet your unique needs.

Here’s a look at popular dermal fillers that take only a few minutes to perform.

Bellafill fills moderate to deep facial folds and wrinkles. It can also be used to reduce the appearance of acne scars and pits that make the skin look bumpy or marred. Bellafil contains microspheres which are made of a biocompatible material that has been used in the cosmetic industry for many years. Bellafill is one of the longer laster dermal fillers. It can last up to five years on nasolabial lines!

Juvederm reduces the lines that appear between your mouth and nose. This filler can also be used to add volume to your lips. Juvederm contains synthetic hyaluronic acid gel which hydrates and fills lines on your face. Results last for up to a year.

Radiesse replenishes your skin’s volume that diminishes over time. The product actually creates an internal support structure for your skin and prompts your body to make new collagen. You’ll look younger and fresher immediately following treatment, and results last for about a year.

What Aesthetic Products are Available?

One of the most popular aesthetic products available today, Botox improves the look of frown lines, laugh lines and other wrinkles. It paralyzes the muscles that cause these lines to appear in the first place. Botox has been used for decades and is one of the most trust and effective ways to look younger and fresher. Results are apparently within four days, and follow-up treatments are usually required in about a year.

Did you know your eyelashes get thinner and lighter as you age? Latisse is an FDA-approved drug that works to make your eyelashes grow thicker, longer and darker. You use the serum at home but a doctor must prescribe it for you.

Don’t think you’ve got to devote lots of time, money and effort into aesthetic surgery in order to look your best. These cosmetic services will revive your appearance quickly and without too much pain to your body or wallet.

Men are Increasingly Opting for Cosmetic Services to Achieve a Youthful Appearance

While it’s true that more women seek cosmetic services than men, more and more guys are opting for a dermal filler or Botox to help them look their best.

In fact, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery annual meeting in Nov. 2016 put a spotlight on the male cosmetic market.

“It is a growing segment that will continue to grow as more cosmetically-inclined millennial men age. It is also a market that many physicians are not prioritizing, allowing physicians [who do pursue it] to differentiate themselves from their competitors,” says Dr. Terrance Keaney, a keynote speaker at the meeting.

Because a man’s physical features are much different than females, a cosmetic doctor must take care when working with a male patient. If his facial shape is too masculine, he’ll look angry or threatening. Too soft, and he’ll look feminine.

That’s why different injection patterns for dermal fillers and a higher dose of neuromodulators (Botox) are often required for male patients. Care also must be taken to avoid giving men an unnaturally arched eyebrow or a high cheek apex.

How Can Dermal Fillers Help?

Men are concerned with the same age-related changes as women: wrinkles, volume loss and sagging skin.

Dermal fillers add volume in just the right spots for a more youthful, virile appearance. Areas of the face commonly treated among men are the nasolabial fold between the mouth and the nose, the cheeks where volume is lost and the hollows beneath the eyes. A dermal filler doesn’t relax muscles like Botox does. Rather, it adds volume back to your appearance. The effect can last for several months or up to five years, depending on the product used.

Since men’s faces are shaped differently and they have flatter cheeks, lower brows and sharper jaw lines, it’s important to find a physician who has experience treating men with cosmetic services and aesthetic surgery.

Dr. Krikorian has years of experience helping both men and women look their best. Whether it’s a simple prescription for Latisse or a complete refresh of the face, he has the skills to make everyone look youthful, vibrant and, most importantly, completely  natural. Non-surgical Cosmetic Services

According to industry experts such as the Cosmetic Surgery Times, nonsurgical cosmetic treatments are on the rise. These noninvasive alternatives to aesthetic surgery have certainly come a long way since storming onto the medical landscape in the 1990s. Citing the comprehensive research of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the Cosmetic Surgery Times reported a total of 740,751 nonsurgical procedures in 1997. In 2014, by contrast, medical professionals performed nearly 8.9 million of these procedures. Here are just a few of the latest and most popular cosmetic services that do not require surgery.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are injected directly into the skin to improve its overall look and smoothness, softening facial creases and removing wrinkles. These fillers can also improve the appearance of recessed scars, enhance shallow contours, and thicken thin lips. Top dermal fillers currently on the market include…

  • Botox – One of the most popular dermal filler brands, Botox as been a household name in cosmetic treatment for years.

  • Radiesse – Clinically proven to last a year or more, Radiesse addresses wrinkles with tiny, calcium-based microspheres. These microspheres infuse with sagging skin fibers to restore their natural elasticity.

  • Bellafill – This dermal filler brand distinguishes itself because, unlike most fillers, it does not break down over time. Similar to Radiesse, Bellafill uses its own unique formulation of microspheres to generate collagen production.

Chemical Peels

A time-tested method of improving the overall appearance of human skin, the chemical peel uses various chemical compounds to remove the outer dermal layer of the face, neck, and/or hands. Once applied, these chemical compounds cause skin tissue to exfoliate and eventually peel off. The new skin underneath appears fully regenerated and significantly less wrinkled than the skin that was removed.

The only FDA-approved method of growing and extending eyelashes, Latisse uses an active ingredient called bimatoprost to help people improve the fullness and general appearance of their lashes. By applying Latisse to the base of the upper eyelashes on a nightly basis, patients can not only lengthen the growth phase of each affected eyelash but also increase the overall number of hairs that experience growth during this phase. After using Latisse for a period of several weeks, patients typically see considerable improvements in the length and thickness of their lashes.

Astanza Revolution

A laser treatment for toenail fungus, Astanza Revolution is a great alternative to antifungal creams, which fail to treat fungus beneath the nail, and oral medications, which typically have harsh side effects. The Astanza Revolution process is fast, safe, painless and effective, penetrating through the infected nail and destroying fungus at the source. 85 percent of patients require only one treatment of 10 minutes per foot in order to completely eradicate all unsightly fungus.

Bellafill for Acne Scars and Wrinkles

Think about it. You just got back from having your eyelashes treated with Latisse. Now you want to continue improving your facial features and get rid of those unwanted acne scars and wrinkles. But, you don’t want to endure hours of aesthetic surgery or other invasive cosmetic services. So, what do you do?

With Bellafill, you now can have skin that is virtually free of facial wrinkles, scars, and smile lines. This dermal filler treatment is FDA approved to correct moderate to severe facial acne scars and wrinkles in patients who are 21 years of age and older. It is safe and effective and lasts for up to five years.

This injectable collagen treatment contains polymethylmethacrylate microspheres (PMMA), which is the same material that doctors have used for over 65 years in medical implants.

How the Bellafill Dermal Filler Treatment Works

Dr. Raffi Krikorian injects this collagen material into your facial tissue just above the fat layer of your skin underneath your acne scar or wrinkle. It’s a simple treatment that can be done in the office and provides you with instant results that last a long time. It is a double-acting treatment.

The PMMA beads and collagen correct your acne scars or wrinkles while providing instant lift and volume. If you have pitted, facial acne scars, Bellafill essential lifts your scar, leaving smoother skin underneath. Then, your skin gets long-term structural support since the PMMA beads stay in place.

This derma filler doesn’t degrade over time like other fillers. The PMMA in this treatment stay in your skin permanently and replenishes the collagen. Everyone gets older and your collagen production will slow down due to the natural aging process. But, all it takes is a small touchup of this treatment to bring your collagen back to its original levels.

Benefits of this BOTOX Alternative

You are getting as much as 80 percent purified bovine collagen gel. Because of this, the benefits you will experience include:

  • Instant visible fill and lift
  • Enhanced injection comfort due to the 3 percent lidocaine
  • Lowered immunogenicity
  • New collagen forms as the injected collagen is resorbed

With this treatment, you can expect continuous beauty and lasting improvement. Although each patient is different, most patients see immediate correction after treatment that lasts for up to five years. To maintain optimal correction, simply have periodic touch-up injections.

Think Botox is Just for Wrinkles? Think Again!

Ever since it was approved by the FDA over 20 years ago, people have been relying upon Botox injections to treat moderate to severe crow’s feet and frown lines. While this is intended use for this cosmetic procedure, it can also be used for to treat a number of different problems.

The following is a look at some of the other, less commonly known, ways Botox can be used. All of these methods are either currently FDA approved or are listed as intended uses for this cosmetic procedure.

Provide Relief to Migraine Sufferers

Receiving injections of this cosmetic procedure in very specific areas on the face has been proven to be a very successful treatment for migraine sufferers. Migraine sufferers who have injections placed in the forehead, shoulders, and temple reported a dramatic decrease in the amount of severe headaches that occurred.

Overactive Bladder

Overactive bladder can be treated with medication, but it doesn’t always work. People who find medication is not working, or it isn’t working as well as they would like may be able to find relief with the help of Botox injections.

This cosmetic procedure can treat the symptoms of overactive bladder in individuals who are 18 years of age or older. Symptoms that can be treated include frequent urination, feeling the need to urinate, or experiencing occasional leakage.

Treatment for Hyperhidrosis or Excessive Sweating

Some individuals have sweat glands that produce an excessive amount of sweat. This is a condition known as hyperhidrosis. There are very few treatment options available for people who suffer from hyperhidrosis, but receiving injections for this cosmetic procedure may be one of them.

Injections can be placed directly into the sweat gland. When this is done it creates a blockage that will dramatically reduce the amount of sweat the body creates. This blockage will hold for up to six months and allow people who suffer from hyperhidrosis to find relief.

5 Botox Myths Debunked

People have lots of opinions about  Botox.

Some think it’s poison. Other believe you can get addicted to it. Still others assume your face will freeze in place after you receive an injection.

These things simply aren’t true. Botox® is completely safe and scientifically proven to improve the look of expression lines on your face. Women and men have been using the product for years to achieve a youthful, vibrant appearance.

To prove it’s safe and effective, let us debunk some common myths about Botox.

Myth #1: It’s harmful to your body.

While Botox® is made from botulinum toxin, a type of bacteria that can cause food poisoning, it’s entirely safe to use as an injectable. The concentration of the botulinum toxin is extremely low. Plus, it’s injected into a very specific set of muscles with a very specific purpose. It isn’t ingested into your blood stream where it can move throughout your body.

In short, Botox isn’t capable of spreading to areas of your where it could be dangerous.

Myth #2: It causes facial paralysis.

Botox and any other dermal filler should always be administered by a highly qualified physician. That way, you’ll receive natural-looking results. Too much product can give your facial muscles a tight, rigid appearance. That’s why you should only let an experienced physician like Dr. Krikorian perform the treatment.

Myth #3: It’s addictive.

While you could become addicted to your fantastic appearance, you can’t get addicted to Botox itself. The product stays in your body for up to six months following treatment. At that time, you’ll probably want to come in for additional injections to maintain your youthful glow. But it won’t be because your body “craves” more Botox.

Myth #4: It’s painful.

True, Botox is injected into your skin with a needle, so it’s natural to assume the treatment hurts. In truth, the injections aren’t painful and feel similar to a mosquito bite. If you’re really sensitive or become uncomfortable, Dr. Krikorian will use a topical anesthetic to dull the sensation.

Myth #5: It’s only for old ladies.

Anyone over the age of 18 can receive treatments. In fact, research indicates that the younger you start using Botox, the more effective it is during your lifetime. So when you start seeing wrinkles and line on your forehead or around your eyes, consider Botox to retain your youthful appearance.

When you’re ready to talk more about Botox or other cosmetic services like Latisse or aesthetic surgery, schedule an appointment with Dr. Krikorian. He’s highly experienced and trained to help you look your best at any age.
